Labrynthitis is an infection of the inner ear. This condition produces disturbances of balance and hearing and may affect one or both ears. Bacteria or viruses can cause inflammation of the inner ear.
Symptoms of labrynthitis include vertigo (dizziness), hearing loss, fullness in the ear, pain, nausea or vomiting, fever, facial weakness and neck pain or stiffness.
Treatment of viral labrynthitis can include bed rest, fluids, steroids and anti-viral drugs.
Bacterial labrynthitis is treated with antibiotics, based on culture results.
